The skin on our eyelids and surrounding our eyes is among the thinnest on the entire human body. While that allows the easy formation of expressions, it also makes our eyes subject to the sagging and sun damage that affects our entire body. But because of the thin tissues, aging can show even more on our eyelids.
Dr. Smith performs blepharoplasty, eyelid surgery, to turn the clock back on the facial age of his patients by up to a decade.
Popular procedure
Every year, eyelid surgery is one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries. This is because the procedure is very satisfying is rejuvenating not only the eyes, but the entire upper third of the face. Plus, eyelid surgery isn’t something other people will be able to tell you’ve had. They’ll simply think you look somehow more alert and younger.
Just about anyone over the age of 40 could benefit from blepharoplasty with Dr. Smith. We all have sagging in both eyelids, and most of us have some degree of puffiness below our lower eyelids that can also be addressed. For some people, the condition can actually be impacting their vision, as the eyelid is beginning to droop far enough to partially block vision.
How it’s done
Dr. Smith performs eyelid surgery on either just the upper or lower eyelids, but more often on both.
In the upper eyelid, Dr. Smith makes the incision within the natural crease of the eyelid. This hides the incision very effectively. He then tightens elevator muscles and other support tissues. He usually repositions fat, rather than removing it, to avoid creating a hollow look. The last step is to trim excess skin.
In the lower eyelid, the incision can either be made just below the lash line or it can be made on the inside of the eyelid. Fat repositioning is an important part of lower eyelid surgery, as is addressing the under eye bags.
Recovery
Another nice thing about eyelid surgery with Dr. Smith is that your recovery is not difficult. There isn’t all that much pain, and most patients can return to work within a week or so. If you make diligent use of the cold compress we provide, you can really minimize swelling. You’ll be amazed at how good you feel after just a week, and how much improved your eyelids already are. They will continue to improve as any residual swelling resolves.
