Enough is Enough — Breast Reduction

It may seem counter-intuitive in this day and age that a woman with large breasts would seek to have them reduced in size. But there are many women who for health reasons, or simply because they are sick and tired of the attention their overly large breasts bring, opt to have breast reduction surgery with Dr. Smith.

The procedure removes fat and glandular tissue from the breasts, tightening the skin to create smaller breasts that are more proportional and comfortable for the patient.

What problems would lead to breast reduction?

Large breasts can lead to various medical problems: back pain, poor posture, chafing, even difficulty breathing. Socially, large breasts can keep a woman from participating in various sports or types of exercise. And they can make a person so self-conscious because of the undue attention their breasts generate that she avoids social interaction.

Different reduction techniques

There are different methods Dr. Smith uses for reduction surgery.

Traditional — In this technique, an anchor-shaped incision is made beginning around the areola and traversing down to the crease at the bottom of the breast and then outward in both directions along that crease. This is ideal for women with extremely large breasts, although it does create more scarring. Skin, fat, and excess tissue are removed and the nipples and areolae usually repositioned.

Vertical incision — Also known as short scar, this technique involves incisions that extend around the areolae and down to the breast crease in a lollipop shape. This method works well when extensive tissue removal isn’t required.

Scarless — Scarless breast reduction uses liposuction to reduce the size of the breasts with little or no scarring. Liposuction can only remove fatty tissue, not glandular tissue, however, so this method requires the patient’s breasts to be more fatty tissue than glandular.
