Is the Facelift for You?

You’re an adult in your 50’s. You take pride in your appearance by maintaining a healthy diet and staying active. However, you’ve noticed that your skin is slowly beginning to lose its volume, and become a bit saggy.

If this sounds like you, don’t worry! With age, the skin always tends to become a bit looser-looking. With age, production of collagen also decreases, making the skin less supple. Overexposure to the sun can also speed up the aging process.

If you would like to reverse noticeable signs of aging, and rejuvenate your appearance, you may want to consider a facelift. Ready to learn more?

Facelift surgery is also known as a “rhytidoplasty.” The procedure helps create a smoother, more youthful appearance by trimming away unwanted excess skin, which can make a person look much older! During surgery, the facial skin will be lifted up, and carefully pulled back. Your surgeon will make the incision points as discreet as possible, by hiding them along the patient’s hairline.

Facelifts can fix numerous age-related concerns, such as sagging in the middle of the face, deep creases underneath the eyes, jowls that appear due to a loss of muscle tone, and lines between the nose and the mouth. Loose skin and fat underneath the chin and jaw are also corrected!

While facelift surgery can certainly be performed on its own, many patients will choose to combine the surgery with other procedures. Many patients will choose to have a brow lift, or cosmetic eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) with their face lift, to further enhance their overall look.

Though facelift surgery offers the patient numerous benefits, it may not be right for everyone. Ideal candidates for the procedure are patients who are in good physical shape, and have realistic expectations about what plastic surgery can do for them. Remember: plastic surgery will enhance your looks, but it cannot stop the aging process!
